EPA Community-Wide Cleanup Grant

EPA has selected the City of Fort Dodge for a Brownfields Assessment Grant. Community-wide grant funds will be used to conduct 20 Phase I and seven Phase II environmental site assessments. Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, include researching the prior uses of the site to determine if a Phase II Environmental Site Assessment would be warranted.  A Phase II includes the actual testing of groundwater and soil to determine if there are any contaminants at levels that would need to be remediated. A report is given to the property owner at the conclusion of the assessment which would provide the location and amount of contamination and any recommendations on the removal. Grant funds will also be used to conduct area-wide planning, cleanup planning, and community outreach activities.
